He could still recall that very hour. That very minute. That very second when he saw her smiling face. It was like a dream. She was like nothing he had ever seen before. It was amazing. It was by that bookshop that they first met. The wind clashing with her long brown hair and that secret smile, it drove him crazy. He could still remember holding her hand for the first time. Fresh. It was wonderful.

The days were miracles, but the nights were gold. There was nothing that could ever replace the memories of those nights in his head. It was heaven on earth. But it had to end. He should never had made that mistake. He could remember thinking it would be fun. You know, just a one night stand. Just a fling. You only live once, you know. Once. Once was all it took to break everything they had.

Those lines echoed in his head. Of times that felt too slippery to grasp. Of times that had fallen, with no one to catch them. Her words pierced through him like a dagger, and stabbed him hard. Harder than anything he had every felt before. He wanted to hold her. Just hold her. But everytime he tried, she would brush his hand away. The dagger pierced harder with every move. She had started to cry in her sleep. Her pillow would soak in the tears that slid off her cheeks. He knew he wasn't perfect, but no one was. But it was too late. He knew he should have treasured her more when he could. But it was too late. Too late for regrets.

The little gold object glistened in the dim light. Tears rolled down his face and moistened his cotton shirt. Her scent was no longer on his shirt anymore.
